Can you just buy a blank key for your x, tape it to your ignition, then hook up a regular remote start system or is it more complicated than that?

More complicated...

The reciever for the transmitter has an antenna that is specifially designed to only work when they key is IN the ingnition, not around it, not below it, not taped to it.

Theres usually a kit you buy seperately to bypass the security, involving an extra key when you do a DIY install.

would work?

So no key to get into, or use the car?

Remote start would simply start it, allowing your ac/heat to run, some starters even turn all the acc's on like the radio, and power the windows.

You cannot simply press the button on the remote and then get in and take off, you cant shift from park for one, without the key in the ignition, and on; two, the steering wheel would lock, and three, when you press the brake without the key in, it will kill the engine, along with it running for usually 15 minutes the starter kills it, if theres no key in.

so its like turning the key to the first point, where just the power comes on?

Yea, and then starting it lol.

Then you'd just put your key in the ignition, and turn it, but not far enough so it cranks.

We've been working on this over the last few days in the thread you started in the "Under The Hood" section....
