removable winch mount-quick diconnect cable suggestions?

i'm putting 2"recievers in my home made bumpers and building a removeable winch plate.i wondered who sells the quick disconnect cables or if you can buy just the connectors and cable to make your own as i have a bunch of large cable ends and cables.any suggestions on the mount would be appreciated also.my winch is a mile marker:thumbdwn: but at least it was free!

You would be looking for Quick Connect Plugs, a few companies make them. Just do a google search for them. And would recommend at least 4-gauge cable.
 












As a last resort, you can try using welding disconnects. There are many designs out there but these are very stout connections often used on welders up to 220v.
 












thanks guys i'll be gettin myself in(and hopefully out of) deep s*#t in no time! del city has some 350 amp connectors and welding connectors would be real heavy duty also.my winch draws 300 amps at full load and the crappy connectors from milemarker are only 175 amp.maybe it works but the math sounds a little off.anyone else made their own removeable mount?i was thinking of 2" O.D. square stock,some 1/4" plate with gussets and handles in there somewhere.
 






Yeah I built my own winch cradle. Used 2"x2"x1/4" tube, 1/4" plate and then 2"x1/8" and some 1" steel conduit for the handles. The 2x2 tube runs the entire length but I sunk the mounting plate into the receiver tube about 1/2 way.
 






get teh kind of cables that use a box mounted to the outside of the vehicle... if you dont, those little plastic connectors will get beat up from uv exposure and will fail at the most inopportune time
 






I've got an Idea and was wondering if it is do able.
bear with me as I just got out of 8 hours of organic chemistry lab. :banghead:

I was wondering what connectors I should use to wire up a multi mount front and rear on my truck.

here is my plan I hatched in 8hour lab
I'm thinking I'm going to run off my battery to a two way switch in the engine compartment and with the switch I'll direct the power to where I need it.
i:e front of truck, back, or off completely when not in use.
from there I'm going wire 2runs of 1or2 gauge to the back bumper of the rig and put the disconnects on the positive and negative? so 2connectors housings there + 4Cable Link Connectors?

then wire from the switch to the grill where I'll need another 2 connectors housings and 4Cable Link Connectors? and two runs of wiring for positive and negative.

then I'm going to use the power cable that came with the winch for the final connection. which will be used for plugging into the front or rear power connecting.
so I'll need another 2 connectors housings and 4Cable Link Connectors for them?

this should allow me to hopefully winch myself from the front or rear

My question is I was just wondering if this makes any sense? or did I go totally over board?
I have little to now experience with electrical wiring/switches and such
If there an easier/cheaper way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

if all I've said is correct I need:
6 Cable Connector housings
12 Cable link connectors
alot of 2 gauge cable
and a two way switch

I was wondering if something like this would work for the switch?

That is exactly what I've done.

The cable connectors are duplex so you only need 3

My Mile Marker winch came with a solenoid and a switch panel for under the dash. Switch off, no power front or rear, switch on power to both ends. You could use 2 solenoids/switches if you want but THAT would be overkill.
 






The connectors live behind the bumper.

Comes in handy when you can't turn around on the trail:thumbsup:

The 175amp Warns in my link above. That was before these guys came up with the other source. Chances are you'll only be running 1 heavy current draw item at a time. (winch, welder etc)

I let myself down a 200ft 60deg VERY loose gravel slope no problem and I still have a stock alternator.

One thing to note, that winch and the carrier are HEAVY (about 100lbs) you might conside synthetic winch rope. That'll trim about 30lbs.

As you can see from the pics we lowered most of us by winch and DiffWhackDaddy took a different path that required more ground clearance than we had. There was no body damage of any kind to anyone on that trip and we had a stock G-II with us.

update:

i used quick connects from granger and a hanger plug for the cables in the grill out of the sun when the winch is off. no pic of the cable plumbed yet
