just started taking out the a4ld trans everythings run smooth till i hit the convertor housing bolts to the engine. i rounded off one of the bolts on the bottom, i'm questioning whether or not i should square off the head and use vise grips, or if i should drill it and use an easy out. also if anyone knows the best tool to get the bolts on the top of the housing off.

:redexp:

The shop that redid one of my seals had problems with the bolts, they ended up cutting them off:(

If it is not too stripped, try visegrips or squaring offthe corners....good luck, they are a PITA

I think you're still in good shape

These bolts are very close to the edge of the starter ring. They require a very thin wall socket in order to fully seat. If you reach in, I think you will still find nice edges in down further. Your best bet is to take an old socket and grind down the outside wall.

Top bolts: I use 6 point impact sockets. 12 pointers have a potential for stripping. Then just keep using extensions. These take some force sometimes. I only used 3/8 extensions, about 6 in series, and I snaped two of the cheap unhardened extensions. Uses a pipe extension on the ratchet.
