I have a 98 XLT with the 5spd., and I have one of those mobile entertainment systems with the TV and VCR that takes the place of the arm rest console.I have all the arm rest pieces off,but there is this HUGE metal thing sticking up toward the back of the arm rest and it 's bolted to the floor.Has anyone ever removed this, and is it safe or should I just put back the arm rest?

Thanks In Advance,

Phil R.

All i got to say is...Use the Hayne's Repair Manual to remove that piece...and call ford to ask them if it would be safe...:smoke:

does this huge metal thing look like a big triangle kind of? I use the term triangle very loosely, does it have 3 sides? If so, according to Haynes, that's your mounting bracket.

I have '97 Sport with a 5speed manual, and i removed my center console/armrest to put one of htese in. I removed that 'bracket' 2 years ago, and everything still seems fine. I removed the arm rest to put a 'custom' fiberglassed center console with my 12 disk changer and VCR in it. What i'm trying to say is that you'll be fine removing that piece of metal
