Removing factory stereo?

I know you need those U things.....but is there another way to rig something up to get it to pop out?? My display isn't there and I just bought the thing....if the lights on the radio buttons work....does that mean the display should light up or does it have a totally different fuse? Anyhow.....just wondering if there is a way to get it out without ripping everything apart.....I'd like to put my aftermarket cd player in
