Removing mud from engine compartment?

Hey, i just did some 4 wheeling yesterday. I drove through a shallow muddy pit and it sprayed up into the engine area. Now i have a mud residu(sp) all over. What can i do to remove all of it? Is there any kind of cleaner? Can i use my hose or pressure washer, will that do anything to the electrical components. Thanks for any replies.

i think a hose would be fine, just dont spray directly into electrical components. for future reference its much easiear to get clean if you do it right after you go muddin.

Yea a hose is fine, also when you do it keep the car running just to be carful

I have never had any trouble with spraying the engine campartment with a hose. You may want to wait til it cools down so you do not crack any hot metal parts.

engine degreaser

you can use engine degreaser, it took away 9 years of mud outa my engine compartment, and with a hose too. and ya it is probably a better idea to wash it after its cooled.

Anyways. If you put some degreaser into a spray bottle (old windex bottle or something) you can use it to spray on instead of pouring on tons. Leave it sit for about 30 min - if you really want it to work right, then spray off with a hose. Dont expect the spray bottle to last too long, remember that the degreaser will probably react with the pump system and make it loose its prime/or suction/or whatever you wanna call it.
