removing running boards question

i decided to take off my running boards today and so i take out the two screws one on each end and all the bolts under the car but i am having trouble pulling them off because of the plastic pieces that go through th wholes in the body. how do i get those out i already tried getting a screwdriver in that but am starting to scratch up the paint. how do i go about getting it off do i have to take the brackets off completely or do i just yank really hard?

I had the screw-on running boards so I just unscrewed the brackets and they came off.

But with most other running boards I've gathered from reading around that you just have to yank on 'em until they come off.

yea it just pried them off one plug at a time but they are off now!!!
