replace stock amp

I think my stock amp is toast.

radio turns on, cassette moves and it will search for stations or go to pre set ones - just no sound

is there a simple way to test the amp to see if its gone bad?

where would be a good place to get a replacement

( I'm an old fart and don't need to be able to aim my speakers backward to power the x forward )
I just would like to hear some music instead of contemplating life when driving

I have a 1992 with premium sound system

any help would be appreciated

yuo may want to look into getting another stock amp, or getting an aftermarket headunit and an amp bypass harness....

I agree. If you can find a stock replacement amp cheap enough then do that, but consider a cheap one will be a used one and how long before you will be replacing that one. A new aftermarket radio (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc) you can find for around $120.

It sound like either the amp itself is bad, a fuse to the amp is blown, or you have a short somewhere. If it were me, I would just get a decent aftermarket radio with the built in MOSFET chip(I.E Pioneer, Panasonic, Alpine, etc), and bypass the factory amp. This will give you a much better sound. The factory amp is located in the rear, passengar side, behind the panel. They make an amplifier bypass connector, or you can do it yourself. Theres a wire color code map floating around the board somewhere. Good luck!
