My 94 Limited is making one heck of popping sound, and when I crawled under to change oil last time, I noticed that one sway bar bushing is shot, the other is completely missing. Are these easy (for your slightly above-average driveway mechanic) to replace? If so, can someone please give me step-by-step details on how to FIY. I apologize if there is another thread with above info., but I couldn't find one. Thanks- this forum has really saved me a lot of jingle & BS in the past.

Are you asking for the swaybar or the swaybar links?

Glad you found my pic useful:)

They're really easy to replace. The the link bushings of mine were bonded to the metal center pin, and I had to use a drill to get the rubber out, but the bushings are cheap and the rest is easy work.

I used a torch and burned them out.

I wish I would have had a torch. I spent an hour drilling them all out.

ouch, must have been hard on the hands.

I was going to suggest a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade. Worked wonders for me when I had to cut the shackle bolts on my X.

RAB replacement

Dudes: Was I way off base, or what? When I had vehicle up on ramps & crawled under, I found that the radius arm bushings on both sides were toast! Looks like I can count on 5-6 hours of replacing due to time required to drill/grind rivets. Will also do the sway bar bushings while I'm under there.

I just replaced my front and rear sway bar bushing AND radius arm bushing in two nights after work (lots of breaks because beer cans just don't hold enough refreshing "break" fluid). I rented a ball joint press kit from Advance Auto parts. No grinding rivits, no drilling/burning out old bushings. I followed the procedures exactly as stated in my Haynes manual and now with new coil springs in front and new leafs in back, my "91 X rides like new (and no popping).
