2005 Ford Explorer, a little less than 75K miles. No issues at all until now.

Transmission started making some noises and then would not go into reverse. Took it to the local transmission shop(chain) after investigation they said the transmission needs to be replaced, cost is $3400 with a 3 year/50K mile warranty.

I guess the truck is only worth a little more than the price to fix it?

Not sure if it makes economic sense to spend this type of money on it.

Thoughts?

If it's a nice truck and 4x4 personally I would fix it, that is low mileage on an 05. But $3400 is steep, I'd get a second opinion. I was quoted $3800 for fixing my 97. But around here some shops just install a Jasper instead of doing the actual repairs. So the answer always is needs replacing. Which I can't argue with, but when the repair is more than the "value"of the vehicle, it's a tough call to make.

think i would be finding me a junk yard to get one from for that price! then sell it lol. Or find a shop to actually preform a in house rebuild hard to find good trans shops anymore these days!
