After extensive research and testing of 5 Explorers I have decided to go for the one with the one that drives the best, has a new MOT and has full service history even though it has one of highest mileages of those that I saw (130k).

I'm picking it up later this week after the 4x4 selector switch on the gearbox has been replaced. This means I can now turn my attention to the various DIY tasks that need to be done.

The first is the electric aerial which has been snapped off at the bottom and there is no sound from the motor when the RDS 7000 radio is turned on.

Does anyone know of a replacement aerial that fits the explorers or are all aerials a standard size? I don't mind if it's electric or not.

I've seen this in Maplin but not sure if it'd fit?

Thanks

hi mate, glad to see you'ne got a mo'chine sorted ;)
as for aerials, there are plenty of explorers in scrapyards and on fleabay. there are even chaps on here who sell parts, so you should have no problem locating an aerial. just sit back, wait for everyone to finish work and im confident the answer will appear here tonight .

My aerial motor runs and stops when it should but the antenna wont move- I cant be bothered to repolace with Fraud one, I have a rubber one to wack on, I wil do that as soon as it stops raining!

Thanks for the responses guys.

Looking forward to picking the beast up on Friday after its minor op! :D

Have emailed a couple of the chaps breaking explorers on ebay to see if they have a working aerial (& rear wiper unit) otherwise will just put something functional on.

Ford Fair sounds great but sadly we're on holiday then - thanks for the invite though and maybe next year!
