I need to replace my engine. It has a slipped rod bearing. I have been looking around for a reputable company to buy a used one with less than 60k and a good warranty. The best so far is a 54k 6mo/unlimited mile. I also looked at "reman" engines, but they cost twice as much...
I am also going to install headers at this time ( i dunno which one's are best for my truck, 2003 4.6L AWD). I'm hoping you all can help point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance, any info is greatly appreciated.

Don't know what the price is on the 54k engine but here are two 4.6s right in Silver Springs: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/pts/1504638458.html

Perhaps a Wanted to Buy ad in Craigslist will yield results. Chances are a business that can fulfill your request will contact you.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply.
Is there a difference in 2V 4.6L's? or will my ecu run a thunderbird/crown vic/mustang/F-series 4.6L or any other non-explorer 4.6L as long as it's a 2V?

All the 4.6 2 valve Engine are pretty much the same. You should have no problem swapping one out of any of the vehicles. You should also check your local boneyards. My local one charges $150.00 for an engine, but you have to pull it yourself.

I picked up my 05 4.6L engine at a boneyard (very nicely stored, removed, cleaned, and capped), for 1050 bucks. if you get an engine made after 03, you will have to put the intake manifold + plenum off your old engine onto the new one. 04+ 2v's have electronic throttle bodys, where as the 02-03's have cable's. As for headers, go with JBA shortys, unless you want to pay kooks over 1800 for a custom set of long tubes. Make sure you use the supplied bolts with them as well, or you wont be getting those headers off while the engine is in the truck later down the road.
