I've replaced the front shocks on my 2001 mountaineer with monroe sensa tracs. While taking it for a test drive the right side is making a rubbing noise. I think it's the axle/ cv joint. Any thoughts?? The steering also shutters while turning. Did not have these problems before the replacement. Thanks

Steering shudder is probably air in the power steering lines. In park with the truck on turn the wheel full lock to full lock a few times should help. And rubbing sound just make sure everything is tight then start from there.

I replaced the steering pump a couple of months ago. Like I said I didn't have these problems before I changed the shocks.

while jacked up. You can turn the wheel and the cv joint boot rubs on the shock casing. The diameter is the same size as the ones I pulled off. I don't get it....

Explorers like to get air in the lines when you lift the front end off the ground and turn the tires with the X off. Just try the lock to lock and see what happens. I doubt you hit anything while doing shocks to cause the shake while turning. New shocks alone wouldn't do that.

There you solved both problems then lol. Don't know what to tell ya sorry.

what does jacking it up have ANYTHING to do with it! The Shock is rubbing on the cv joint. Has anyone heard of this. They are the same size. Something else must of shown it's defect with the new pressure of the new shock........

I replaced mine with monroe sensa tracs with no problems. Can you actually see it touching?

There not even close, there's nearly an inch of clearance. If it's rubbing you've got the wrong shock. Post up a photo please.

Well thanks guys, I feel like an Ass. They gave me rear shocks instead of the ones I ordered. Relized it when I came home from work. Thank you drdoom for pointing out the inch clearence. I'm suprized they fit!! lol

They shouldn't have? And they look VERY different.

Yes, VERY different. I don't see how the rear shock fits the front stem mount. Front #37177/Rear #37035

Where's a will, there's a way :D

oh please, please, please... say you have a picture of the "install".... I got to see how you made this "work"... :-)

well after looking at the rear shocks, they're not the same just must be the wrong ones. They are the same as the rear except for the top mount. Very strange... now I probably can't return them at the online site I bought them cause I installed them, even though it's there fault. My fault for not doing a side by side compairision.

You can always try to return them and see what they say. Just don't be rude about it and they'll probably help you out and at least give you a discount on the right part. If they don't do something for you I would personally buy them from somewhere else like rockauto or 1aauto.

They're from parksgeek.com

Ok So I guess everything is my fault. These shocks are for a 2 wheel drive.
