I couldnt find any exact how to on replacing the upper/lower intake gaskets on the 99 sport in this forum just for the OHV. Picking them up today and doing the job tomorrow. I somehow of course cannot find my haynes manual for the truck either.... Apologize if I am not supposed to post outside links, but I found this complete how to here http://mechanixtrix.com/Article/Article.aspx?ArticleID=40 and was wondering if someone could perhaps circle with red color or use arrows or something for the different parts/lines I am to unplug and repost those pics?

I dont know and cant exactly see where the tp sensor, vaccum tube, and pcv tube etc. are in the pics and it would make it much easier for me. Thanks

The cold starting has gotten much worse to the point of dying now and even warm its got a bad sputter at idle. Cleaned the iac and maf yesterday with no difference and this job is cheap so its the next step. Im sure the gaskets are still stock.

I am going to clean the tb also when I change the gaskets so any tips you can give me on that would be great. Its the peice the that the intake connects to in the "step 3" picture yes? Any tips on removal and what to use and how to clean it well?

Thanks much

This is a whole lot better than what you are looking at. Plus this is a forum member so you can ask him questions. Most any question you might want to ask has been answered somewere on this forum at sometime maybe.

Great! Thanks for the link.

Well just got the gaskets replaced, started it up and it sounded great but then the sputtering came back after a few minutes of idling and a quick drive around the block. Idling at about 6-700 rpms after drive.

Another very odd thing is coolant starting leaking out of the rad cap when I pulled in after test drive. Coincidence? Gonna pick up a new rad cap now but it seems really strange. Truck was not up to op temp yet either.

Might test drive it for a day and see if anything changes but if anyone has any other ides let me know. Fyi I did not clean the tb yet, work night and its cold out so I just wanted to get the gaskets done to see if it was a quick fix.

Thanks

Edit: after a bit of searching I just found out the intake bolts have torque specs.....and since I cant find my Haynes I did not torque to spec. Do I need to pull this apart and re-torque and are the gaskets still good, I did the best I could with how I felt the 20 upper/lower bolts came out. Does anyone know the torque specs? 99' 4wd Sport 4.0 SOHC.

Well I got some advice that it sounds like a vaccum leak, but after talking about the coolant leak out of the rad cap I was told it may be a head gasket? Oil looked good. Would the idling symptoms indicate that?

I was told to carefully remove the rad cap at op temp and fill to make sure rad is full to brim and watch for air bubbles to see if it is a head gasket. Could I skip that and just watch for air bubbles in the overflow tank?

Coolant was full and my sis says she always has watched the temp and has not heated it up. Do these have check engine lights when the temp gets to hot? I know my durango does.

How to I check for a vaccum leak? I have done a radiator pressure test with the autozone rent a tool on my durango but have never done any kind of vaccum test and do not know how.

Any opinions and troubleshooting ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Found torque specs, looks like 120in lower and 60in upper. I will redue them....

if you get air in the cooling system it can be difficult to get it to "burp" on the SOHC engine. you said that it didn't come up to temp after your test drive. the coolant leaking out from the rad cap is a sign of a bad rad cap, but is also a sign of the coolant/engine overheating and boiling over (even though the temp gauge doesn't show it). this is because the temp sender is not sitting in any coolant, just air. once it cools down check the coolant level in the rad to see if it has burped. also check to make sure your overflow hose to the reservoir isn't clogged. it should have boiled over into the reservoir. be careful if you get it too hot it may blow a head gasket.

oh, BTW, did you also replace the lower intake gaskets, or just the uppers? it may still be running rough because the lower's are leaking, or you may have something else causing a vacuum leak (hoses, lines, PCV elbow to name a few common things).
