I know this a big discussion item but noone seems to talk about their factory sub. I have a factory sub where the stealthbox is and it came w/ a jbl sub. I replaced my hu and then it got too much power and blew. I replaced it with a lanzar 6 1/2 midbass/sub and it sounds good but I want more. I work at circuit city so I can get those mtx stealthboxes or q-logic pretty cheap but will I have to replace my whole rear panel. It looks like the box just comes right out but however the plastic interior trim piece looks like it wouldnt fit. I havent looked for another piece but it might be a hard item too find. OR MAYBE SOMEBODY WOULD LIKE TO TRADE. the sub sounds great but my highs are starting to pass the sub up. so of course we always want more. thanks

Those replacement subs that you can get a great deal on (jealous) will fit behind the factory panels, no worries. They'll even fit if you have the small storage area instead of the factory sub. Good luck.

you don't have to replace the entire rear panel. the mtx thunderform should come with a grille that replaces the existing grille, or you can probably just use the one that's there already.

from what i understand, you just have to remove the rear panel, take out the old sub and replace it with your mtx or qlogic.

so is it worth it?? I guess if I dont have to replace the panel. has anybody here replaced their factory sub? did you keep using the factory amp. I hooked it up to an older mtx black gold and it sounded good, more than what I had. but took up too much space. I need my space, thats why I bought an X(as you guys say).

my stealthbox isn't in yet... going in next month, so i can't say for sure, though from what i've read, the mtx or jl custom enclosures are worth it. ESPECIALLY since you get a discount.

others on the board are die hard audiophiles and will contest that the sound isn't as good as it would be if you were to get a real box with a high quality 12(s)", and they're probably right, but for the amount of space saved, it's worth it.

and yeah, you DO NOT have to replace the rear panel.

in terms of amp, i'd run it off an amp. get one from circuit city. no point in using that crappy factory amp, you'll get better sound off an aftermarket amp. there's an active post right now about wiring up a stock factory head unit with an aftermarket amp. just do a search.

let me propose this... dude, you work at circuit city. spend a little more cash and get a new head unit, speakers and an amp to go with that thunderform that you're thinking about getting...

Seeing that yo can get the MTx box order one that is unloaded. The last one I did for a customer I ordered a unloaded enclosure and putt a MTX 8000 10" sub in it.
It was powered by a Kenwood Excelon 401.
The only other thing I would do is redo the grill in a color that matchs your interior, seeing they come only black.

any suggestions where i can get the speaker grill cover material in grey?

so brian Im sure you got to listen to that setup w/ the 8000 and the excelon. How did it sound. did the sub work good in that enclosure? or should I get a small box sub for that

It sounded great. The good thing about MTX is that the Subs all take the same size box , 8000s 10"will work in the same size as 6000s 10" and so on. I am at home but if I remeber the Explorer enclosure is .5 cubic feet. This is the reccomended size for there 10s
