installing aftermarket amp for sub on factory JBL system?

i searched and could seem to find exactly what im looking for.

I have a factory JBL system in my 96 limited.

My sub amp seems like it died. I have an aftermarket and and sub i would like to hook up and keep the factory headunit and everything else....

Is it as simple as removing the factory amp and using the factory wire inputs and hooking them up to my aftermarket amp? then running a power feed to the aftermarket and from the battery?

i guess what i really need to know if, will the factory single wires work hooked directly to an aftermarket amp?

One problem might be that the remote is only a 5V. At least it was in my 96.

and im guessing the remote from an aftermarket headunit is 12v? Couldnt i get around that by just sending a 12v single from a switch or key on?
