I have a new outside door handle for my 94. I know you have to drill out the rivits. What can I use to secure the handle back to the door? The manual says use pop rivits, but I don't have them, or a rivit gun.

Thanks

you can get pop rivets at any hardware store, and the pop rivet tools can be had for under $20

you can also use 2 small bolts and nuts

If you use bolts, just make sure you use lock-tight or some other thread locker on them. That way you won't have to worry about taking everything apart again to fix a rattling loose nut. I've never been a fan of pop-rivets myself.

I bought a rivit tool kit.
What size pop rivit should I use? It came with different sizes.

Thanks

Just find one that'll work the best for the size hole and will still hold a good amount of force on the handle.

OK I drillout the rivits, however Ford used these ones that the backing goes around the inside of the hole. The thing won't come off. Also how do you unhook the door latch rod? It look slike it's in an L shape around the hole on the door handle. Seems I may have to try to bend it so it will unhook, However there's no room for that.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Bump

Anyone?

The connecting rod should disconnect from the lower lock.

The springs on my driver's door snapped, and I'll be replacing a handle as well tomorrow. Went to the junkyard and sawz-alled up a door today :smoke:

there's another thread from a guy who's detailed his steps pretty good. i know you don't have to bend the rod end. i did this job but i can't recall the specifics. it wasnt that hard.

my replacement handle came with rivets. but our rivit gun was too small for them. we drilled a couple new holes and used different rivits. this was two years ago and it's still good. i could take a pic to show ya if you want.
