'98 XLT, stock CD/tape player with 6 disk changer and factory sub in back- I want upgraded speaks in the doors, I looked on Crutchfield.com and saw the array of what fits. I don't want to get involved in amps, but the stock speakers sound soo bad, it hurts. Any reccommendations? I am going to keep the same head unit... I've heard Pioneers and JBL's are good- Expert opinions needed..... Budget: around 200-250.

I'd go with decent cheapos in the rear and use the rest of the money for the front. Jensen 6x8s from Walmart are great inexpensive speakers for rear fill. This leaves you $175-200 for the fronts, I recommend a decent 5.25"/1" component set. I ran JLs in the front, but I got them cheap from a friend.

Since you have the MACH system, you only get the mids and highs from your speakers and all your lows from the sub so I would definitely recommend speakers that are very good at producing mids and highs. I've heard Infinity Reference or Kappa speakers are very good because you get the ability to adjust the tweeters.
