Has anyone used RESTORE oil additive? If so what are the advantages and disadvantages? Has anyone heard any news worth noting? I have a 1993 Explorer XLT with 117,000 miles, so all the help would be much appreciated.

Yeah another aggie go texas a&m

it is all snake oil. the best thing for your engine is a rebuild or at the very least regular oil changes with a good quality oil and filter.

I agree, all these additives are just to make you feel better. They don't do anything. As a rule I don't buy anything that has a half hour commercial on tv.

alright guys, thanks for the info.....probably saved me some time and some money.

Restore is Good

I work at an auto parts store and all I have heard is good news about Restore. They actually had an article in Mustang Monthly about it and they gave it rave reviews. It's not that expensive and this one actually reconditions rings and seals. I have put it in my Explorer, Mustang, and Bronco I feel that it helped all of them. They have a money back guarantee if you don't feel the difference in 500 miles, so what the hell give it a shot huh. I like it a lot.

oh no not an aggie !

hehe jk

most oil additives are BAD!!

I did some research on oil additives a while back. What I learned is that most of them are very bad for your engine. Microscopic particles in them clog up oil passages and stuff like that. Also after testing them in engines it was found that MORE metal flakes were found in the oil pans of engines with additives than engines without. That means the engines had more wear and tear.
A couple of years ago I got suckered into using Slick 50 in my Daytona. (my high mileage vehicle) A couple of weeks after using it I noticed that all of my very small oil leaks had become noticable sized. I was going through about 1 quart of oil every week and a half. I didn't use any in the next oil change and the leaks began to slow down. About 3 or 4 changes later they finally became barely noticable again.
