Does anyone know where the RCM is located on a 2008 Ford Explorer XLT? It has the center console with the shifter and the air ducts for the rear. I pulled the cup holder and the plastic piece that sits over the shifter but I don't see anything down inside the console that looks like the RCM.

The driver wheel air bag is blown and I'm looking to replace the air bag and either get the RCM re- programmed or buy another RCM out of another explorer.

Ok, I finally found a diagram that showed the RCM under the center console. I removed the center console and found it underneath some carpet.

Now, my question is can I buy another RCM from the same year explorer and expect it to work, or would I be better off removing the RCM from the vehicle and sending it off to have it reset? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Also, just for grins, I took it to Autozone and another local auto parts store to see if they could read the air bag light, but they didn't have the "fancy" OBD reader that was capable of reading the air bag light.

Bump for you. Do you have to pull the seats to get the RCM out? I guess whats the best way to get to it?
