Okay on my X I've got the 5 speed and my rear back up lights aren't working. I checked the fuse (it was fine) and suspect the switching mechanism on the transmission is faulty. My problem is I don't know where or which one it is on the tranny. I've checked my Haynes manual and it is no help. Please somebody steer me in the right direction.:D

per the 1992 ford manual..

"left side of the transmission adapter".

wire colors are P/O and BK/PK.

*edit* it looks to be on the left side of the top cover, just behind the the shifter location.

Thanks, I'll have a look when I get a chance.

Thanks, your wire color codes were bang on. I checked the harness for power and it was good, checked the switch for continuity and there was none. So I'll have to go get a switch from Ford.

Whats your thoughts on running auxilary back up light(s) on the original circuit? I don't want to run a dash switch, I just want to have them come on when in reverse.

theres nothing else on that circuit, so it should be ok, within reason.

if in doubt, you could always use that circuit to control the coil of a relay, and power the lights from the batt, thru the relay
