Well, I just received a call from the Ford dealer service dept. My problem with the internal engine noise/rattle that I previously posted a thread on has been determined!

Cause of this rattle/noise is due to a cracked CamShaft Timing Chain Guide.

This means I will not have the truck back to me until Monday, due to the part order. But as said before, the dealer is looking after all of the cost. At least now I know what was wrong, and this is with only 76K Kilo’s.
Canadian, Eh!

Is this a common prob for the SOHC engine? and mileage?

Cheers!

Yes, very common problem with the 97-00 SOHC engines.

Do I foresee a re-occurrence with this problem?
Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Other then cut off my lead foot!

Cheers!

No, you shouldn't. The replacement parts have supposedly been upgraded to prevent the reoccurance.

Thanks!

Thats a load off my mind :D

I had a low idle symptom with this as well, could this also be part of the reason other then a possible MAF cleaning? Can the cracked braket throw the timing off a bit?

Cheers!

wow, congrats on finding the problem, I know its frustrating to locate something like that.

I wonder.. how did oyu get ford tro actually do anything to your car? I have called ford customer support twice and they have told me a dealership wont do anything or even research anything reguardless of noises/other issues without a check engine light or code in the pcm.. of which I have neither of.. howd you give em the kick to get em movin on this?

is this 100% important to get done? Do you know how much it would have costed?

Does it make a difference 'cause you have a '97. I'm still getting mixed results and would like to know where I should go next.

The truck was purchased from the dealer only 2 months ago...so I would hope they would repair the problems I have run into durring this time. I paid top $$$'s for this truck, they had better honor my service. But for piece of mind, I never even had to raise my voice?

Just to clarify, the truck is a 99 4.0 SOHC. And I'm not sure if this is a required recomendation or not. But it probablly would'nt hurt.

Good luck with yours, and thanks for the support!

Cheers!

wow, whats this dealership? lol, I took my truck to the same dealer almost 4 times before their transmission specialist finally got in my face and told me I didn't know what I was talking about cos I wasnt a certified technician and blah blah blah.

the 2nd dealership I took it to once, the guy found nothing again. .I took it to about 5 private party shops, who.. like ford.. wouldn't go past the ODB scans, and then said since there were no codes.. just as ford.. there was absolutley nothing they can do

I guess I should consider myself lucky then :D
The noise was apparent to the techys, so I'm fortunate for that I guess!

I'm sure after this, If I notice any problems, it will be at my expence. Better take advantage of all I can now, not to mention that I have already requested for the spline yokes to be greased. Now to call them and verify this has been done...

Cheers!
