My 91 xlt has been reving up to about 2000 rpm when I put it in park, or even neutral. If I put it in reverse or driver and drops back down to 900-1000 (normal). It started about 2 weeks ago, I had been running 91 octance and I thought it might of been that. So this week and last week i've been running 88 octane. It will do this regardless of how long it has been running, either a 3 mile trip or a 50 mile trip is still does it. It is embarrassing because when you turn it off it off it sounds like the engine is still running and the whole truck shakes and make ugly noises....after I do this and try starting it again normally it takes a few seconds before it turns over. But sometimes i'll put in in neutral and rev it to 4500 and let off the gas and it comes back down to normal, turns off normal and when I start it again it starts up instantly. I've tried resetting the computer a few times and running fuel system cleaners and those only seem to help temporarily. I think i'll try resetting the computer again tonight, any ideas?
