Rolled my X 2 and half times *(now with pics)*

I was driving up to school in buffalo. I stopped by cornell to visit a friend. it was snowing and maybe about 3 inches on the ground. maybe a little more. Roads werent plowed, but who needs plowed streets wtih an X. lol.. ME !~! My friend told me of this shortcut from cornell to buffalo rather on some small road, rather than going around to syracuse and then to buffalo. I took his advice and started my adventure. Im going about 30 behind this toyota 4runner on a 55. I knew he was capable of going a little faster, but just followed him for about 20 miles. I was getting impatient, being about 730pm, and having left my house at 7 am to go snowboarding and now on my way up to school. So i decided to pass him. Idiot that i was, didnt think i needed to put on 4 wd. Im accelerating to about 55 or 60, and the snow inbetween the oncoming traffic lane and my lane f*cked me over, i start fishtaling. Going about 20 mph faster then the 4runner, i slide towards him. My right passenger door slammed into the 4runners left rear edge. He spins out, and so do i. I slide sideways into a ditch on the left, and flipped sideways 2 and a half times, ending up upside down in the ditch. THe 4runner rolls over once, and ends upright in the ditch. My car looked fine surprisingly. Only the front and back bumpers gone. Front of the hood dented in a little, headlight and taillight lenses shattered, and right roof rack dented in a little and so my trunk doesnt fully open. No windows broke. THe 4runner looked worse, his front celing caved in about 6 inches. front windshield ad front windoes broke. Well im screwed now. but ill see what i can do to fix my X.

X is the least of your worries

I would worry more about increased insurance, lawsuits, med. bills, etc....

Thats just me though....

yeh, i know.. gonna be a b*tch to settle all this. Just got off the phone with the collision shop. He said its not worth fixing the car up. suspension , frame damage, possible engine. what am i to do.. :hammer:

I overreacted a bit before, I was just remembering the accident that totalled my 95 X, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drive more safely....thats my PSA for the day...

Well lets not rip his throat out all at once. Im sure he knows what he did was a dumb thing todo and now he's paying the price.

I'm with Nick..I'm sure he knows what he did was stupid. I know all of us at one point in our life have done something stupid as well, but gotten away with it. He just got the bad end of the stick. I'm sure our words are gonna hurt much less than what happens to his checkbook. However, if you haven't learned your lesson, then I join the others in sayin "moron."

Well I know that you already feel like a moron. I'm not going to say give up your license or hope you learned your lesson. I had a stupid accident once as well. The accident itself makes you feel like the stupidest person on earth. I don't think we need to be telling him that he was wrong. I'm glad to hear your ok. Hopefully your insurance and whatnot won't go up too much.

:nono:
There were 3" of snow on the ground and you sped up to 55 to pass someone? How old are you anyways? Ever heard of using common sense?

All I can say is be glad it wasn't me you slid into.

I didn't mean to start an inquisition, as I am sure that you learned your lesson (albeit in a most difficult way).

I had a similar experience....I had been driving 55 through a snow storm on a two lane road on two inches of packed snow/ice. I then got to the freeway (four lane divided highway) and saw blacktop. I thought to myself all right, the road has been plowed/salted and started down the ramp and up the highway a little too quickly. Well I hit a patch of black ice and the rear end came out on me and 180'd and slid off the side. I was very lucky that there was no one around me and that the side was not a ditch or steep drop. I whacked a reflector poll cracked the fiberglass body molding under the rocker panel. I learned to accelerate a little slower when I think that the road is clear in conditions that could cause black ice, but I had no experiece to go on before that as I had never hit black ice before....

The point is live and learn, I hope that the other driver was ok. You can always replace the X.

On a funny side note to my story. A lady stopped to make sure that I was ok and offered to help push me out the 1.5 feet of snow I was in on the side of the road. Now this lady had to be about 5 feet tall and weigh about 100 pounds. I told it she didn't have to as I had the 4x4 to get me out, but she insisted and got behind the vehicle to help push. I feel bad that I got mud/dirt/water all over her clothes from the spinning wheels, but it is funny to think about now.

I know It's been said already , but dam . Driving like an ass is one thing when it's yourself or your own property thats involved . When you risk the lives of others is a totally different thing . Shame on you . Who cares about your X or probs ? What about the inocent drivers 4 runner and his new situation . :bounce:

for those that understand how stupid i feel, thanks, but for those that just keep saying how stupid i am.. what gives you the right to judge me for one mistake. if you've lived all your lives without making one mistake, then your either a lying *****, or one severly deprived person. i know i made a mistake. and you all can say im stupid, but im not some arrogant ******* that didnt claim responsibility. I knew what i did, and im ready to accept the consequences.

Damn that sucks

Sorry to hear about how that happened. I hope everyone was okay. It's a real ****ty feeling when you make a bonehead move like that. Trust me I know. I know you realize what a huge mistake it was to try and pass the other guy so on't worry about the others who are giving you ****. I'm sure that they have never done anything wrong before.

What did you expect posting on the LARGEST Explorer site in the world?

2001 has a point... But really? I've done stupid $hit in my life, but I think most of it, has been fairly controled... If ya wanna call me "deprived" the so be it.... But, I've seen alot... and sure, it's unfortunate for ya, but, I wouldn't have tried to go haulin past in 2x4...

Human Life

Everyone at one time has done something stupid. Driving a vehicle takes responsibility; this isn't something to be taken lightly. What if they guy you hit was killed in the rollover due to your stupidity? No one would be telling quirky little stories or sympathizing with you now.

turn a negative into a positive

chop the top (a/b/c/d pillars) get a bone yard to salvage you a windshield "a" post frame and section it in, thenfind someone to fab you a full cage (from "a" post to "c or d"), then goto an army/navy surplus and buy canvas field tarping (20x30), and design your own removeable top, if you stencil the fabric, there are places that will cut and stitch it together for ya, you could have pretty neat and functional rag top x.

i know this sounds like a joke and it kinda is, but honestly i had a friend that did almost exactly what i just said with a international travelall he rolled.

might be an alternative :hammer:

Never go faster then conditions allow.. I couldn't agree more. one time I was out in east aurora doing donuts in the high school parking lot in my mom's subaru. I got her up to 55 mph. Then i realized that i won't be able to stop. Crashed into deep snow on the side of the parking lot. no damge though.

I live in NJ were we dont always get alot of snow and its fun (for me) to watch all the retards in their 4wd cars/trucks book down the roads then come up on them 5 minutes later where they either spun out and got stuck or they hit something... hard. I dont understand it I ALWAYS drive slow in the snow i learned that early on after owning a Bronco II which couldnt get out of its own way.
