As I had found in another thread to remove the overhead console in the 2006 all you need to do is get your fingers between the console and the headliner and pull straight down. There are four pushpins that hold it in place so all you need to do is pull.
The harness for the homelink is time delayed. The homelink harness has a green and black wire feeding a flat push on connector, the green is 12v+ and the black is 12v-. I used these to feed my Escort 9500i. If the truck is parked for a period of time (have not had the urge to see how long) the Escort shuts down but as soon as I unlock or open a door it begins the power up sequence.
By feeding my Escort from here I was able to mount it at the top of the windshield and only have about three inches of cord comming out of the headliner. Since I did use the smart cord I have the mute box mounted at the top of the "A" pillar so it can not be seen from the rear. This aids in the use of dark mode so the person behind me can't see the alert.
