It's made of steel and aluminium parts....

Very sweet, one minor suggestion - how about a wind/noise deflector in the front of the rack to cut down the noise at highway speed?

What university course is that? May be I should ask the local high school metal shop if they would undertake a class project like that and fabricate a roof rack for me, hummm?

Warning!!

IF YOUR PLANNING TO MAKE YOUR OWN ROOF RACK, DO NOT USE THE STOCK ROOF RACK RAILS, I REPEAT DO NOT USE THEM, IT WONT HOLD UP!!!

That why I didn't send the diagrams, because the vibrations mess up with the rails pretty bad! it was ripping it out of the roof, so I desing a new roof rack mount, without using stocks elements... it will we up again in less than two or three weeks...

Sorry if someone already copy the desing I made...

DO NOT USE THE STOCK RAILS, IT WONT HOLD UP!! :frustrate:

Maybe the rack is to heavy itself? My homemade roof rack has 4 mounts that go to the stock roof rails and I load it down pretty good (hi lift, shovel axe, wood, etc.)and it has held great for 2 years now.

BTW- the roof rack looks like some nice work.

Could be the difference in model's. I don't know myself, but maybe the 2nd gen rails are weaker.
