Roof rack removal

I've searched but couldn't find the answer to my question. How does the roof rack rails come off an 02? Are the screws hidden under the plastic end caps? How about the center supports? Please help!

All people tell you to do is search on this site....drives you nuts!

Pop off the end caps and there will be 2 screws under each one. And yes, there will be 2 screws in the middle. Should be 6 screws on each side, 12 total for both racks. I can't remember how to get the middle ones off, but once you get the end ones off, you'll figure out the rest. Also, make sure you put the screws back in so water doesn't leak in your headliner. Then just hit the screws with some touch-up paint to match your X! Hope this helps

Thank you so much! I try to keep my 02 in the best condition I can with a limited budget. I had bought the hayes manual but it doesn't go into much detail. Next project... paint the rack, once removed.

I would just leave it off. Looks much better without it in my opinion. I took mine off and sold it

It takes about 20 minutes to take the whole thing off... and that's doing it the first time going slow.
