I have an 03 XLT 4x4 35k I went to pepboys today for a special i saw.

The pad juuust reached the indicated 3 days ago and they said i would need new rotors because ford states that their 02 and up rotors can't be resurfaced and can only be replaced

Is this BS

they wanted $46 for each rotor

If this is true where have you gotten your rotor and pads from

all in all it was going to be $510 for new pads for all 4 brakes and 2 new rotors. I left.

I would go to another shop.

I find it hard to believe that the rotors can't be resurfaced. I would call the dealership to find out if this were true, I wouldn't trust Pep Boys for this info. Most rotors can be turned at least one time as long as there is sufficient thickness after removing the damaged or worn surface.

$46 per rotor sounds in the ball park, but my experience with Pep Boys parts is that they are not the best, I would call some other places. I have had good luck with Napa rotors.

Did the $510 include labor and parts? Cause if it was just parts, it sounds high to me. I don't know the prices for 2002+, but for my 97, pads at Napa are about $45 a pair (OEM quality) for front or rear. Rear rotors are about $35 each, Fronts are more maybe $65 or so. I just bought pads and rear rotors 2 wks ago. I wore through the pads so the LH rear rotor was trashed.

napa cut my rotors for 12 bucks a pop

I had my rears turn at a ford dealership,so they are pulling your chain

+1
I had the fronts on my '05 turned 2 weeks after I got it last summer. They're just trying to BS you into buying a new product for more money.

Rotors and drums are stamped with a minimum thickness number somewhere and as long as they aren't turned down past that point they should be able to turn them.

They are going to screw you. My new front rotors from Napa were $100 each. They were going to turn them, then tell you they installed new ones. Front and rear cost me $700 installed with lifetime pads from Midas. I would have done it myself, but I was 200 miles from home when the metal hit metal.
