I have a 98 Explorer XLT 5.0l v8 awd. Recently my check engine light came on. I got it code checked and it spat out two. I don`t remember what the numbers were, but they were both related to the camshaft position sensor. I replaced it this morning and after starting it up the engine started running rough and the light was still on. So I went to get it code checked again and the reader wouldn't work for some reason. Any thoughts?
Update: I found my receipts for the trouble codes.
P1309 - definition misfire monitor disabled explanation ECM disabled the misfire monitor, probable cause 1: verify the cam sensor is synchronized, 2:ECM failure, 3: verify input sensor parameters are correct.
P0340 - Definition cam sensor condition explanation the camshaft position sensor signal is monitored for errors. Probable cause 1: cam sensor defective, 2: check connector and wiring to sensor, 3: Engine mechanical condition-timing belt/chain out of time.
Update 2: After resetting the computer again by undoing the battery, the CEL did not turn on after starting my car, and has stayed that way after driving it around. As for the rough engine, that stopped after checking to see if we had put the right plugs back into the ignition coils. I think what happened is that when putting them back initially, one or more of them weren't on all the way.
