 hi everyone. I have a 96 explorer xlt v8 awd automatic. Today I pulled into a drive way and went to back out. I tried to switch to reverse to back out, but instead, was in neutral. I pushed the pedal (just normal to back out no hot rodding), realized my mistake, and put it in reverse. It the backed out fine but, now anything below 1500 rpm feels very rough and there is a burning smell coming from under the hood. Any ideas:( ? Thanks for your help

welcome to the board, have you located the source of the burning smell? what does it smell like(plastic, oil, ATF, coolant...)?

I don't think the revving was the cause of your problem, maybe just the straw that broke the camels back..

I would say start with the idle controls, check and clean the following, MAF, IAC, TPS, Plugs & wires

When is the last time that you gave it a tuneup? How many miles are on the engine? Is the CEL on?

good luck
