alright im clueless....it happens when im just sitting, the rpms go from about 850 to 1250 and it goes up and down a couple times...i have been told it could be a leak somewhere in the engine, my variable valve timing, or my plugs(i dont think it is because i just had a tune up about 10k ago) it has been doing this since about 60k and it has 123k on it now. I know i probably should have had it checked earlier but my dad was too cheap and since i just got the explorer this summer i havent had the time to look at it. Any advice would be helpful! thanks

Sounds like they IAC (idle air control value). Use the search feature at the top of the page and read some threads on it. you can replace it or try cleaning it.

alright thanks!

would it throw a code if its bad or if it needs cleaning?

No. I let mine go for quite a while before I replaced it and never got a code.

Probably IAC, just changed mine and took care of the "surging".

alright, thanks guys!
