Rough idle no power

I recently rolled my 91 explorer on its side. When this happened the timing chain busted and the cam gear . Replace all that. I can not seem to get it running right. Getting no codes runs rough clatters and has a big loss of power. Power loss gets worse the warmer it gets.

Since you were in there, I'm wondering if you got the timing a tooth off?

I would start by double checking the sparkplug wires. It seems to be common to get it wrong.

If the timing chain snapped while the engine was still spinning. There would be a high likely hood of other damage like bent valves and bent pushrods cracked piston from valves crashing into it. Cause the timing chain keeps all those components moving in the right timing from crashing into each other. When the chain snaps the cam stops moving but the crank would still rotate a bit before the engine seizes from valve slamming into the pistons.

Yea, wow! did it hyrdo-lock? (rolled in deep water?) or did it red-line out?

I don't see how a flop on the side would smash a timing set.

In either case the engine is going to need a full rebuild like@vqspeed said, if it came apart rev'n or hydro-locked a bunch of internals are gonna be tweaked.

That's the beauty of a 4 stroke, when one thing fails, the engine self destructs. Sorry, I just had to say that. I'd have to agree there is a strong likely hood of internal problems.

IMO, first thing I'd do is stick a compression tester on it. That'll tell you if valves or connecting rods got twerked or broken.

Serious internal damage would be my guess too. The timing gears are hardened (if they're the original ones) and they will take a LOT of abuse. When I pulled mine at 227,000 miles (many miles with neglect) they looked great, hardly any wear and the chain was taught. Frankly, I'm surprised you broke yours.
