I went out 4xing in my explorer in alot of mud and now after i start the x the idle fluctuates back and forth from around 900rpm to 1500 and it just keeps doing this. It drives fine but it will not idle like it used to. The x is a 93 eddie bauer, automatic, The only modification to the engine is a k&n air filter. Does anyone know what could cause this. Thanks ahead of time.

clean your maf iac and reset your computer

Would I just unhook the battery to reset the computer?
Thanks

Unhook the negative end and let it sit for 5 or so minutes and that should do the trick.

Ijjust unhooked the battery for about a 1/2 hjour and cleanded my air filter and maf sensor and it did not the help the idling problem with my x. If anyone has anyother ideas I would like to hear them.
Thanks

did you clean teh idle air control valve?

also try some sea foam

No i did not clean the iac, should I just blow out the plug on it and what is sea foam?

Also try the PCV valve. Some times the clutter up or the hose may have gotten disconnected. That give you a rough idle. Probably not the 900-1500rpm fluctuation though. Worth a try. Check all of your vaccum lines for leaks.
