i notice that periodically my rpm will dip quickly from say 1000-1200 rpm down to 400 and then back up to say 800-1000 when I am coasting between 10-25 mph. It usually when I am approaching say a red light in the distance and I simply Coast as to prepare to brake. I would guess this has something to do with the automatic transmission downshifting maybe from 2nd to 1st but I am hoping to get some opinions over this.

Can it be a somewhat slow down shift with a lull that causes it to have that low dip? Sensors or solenoids starting to show age? Or within reason?

My idle as always around 800 -1000 cold and 600 on a warm engine. They only performance issue I ever had was a dirty, sticky iac valve 7 years ago which I have cleaned and still clean once a year. I had cleaned the throttle intake and maf sensor within the last year. The trans has been serviced quite well ... 4 services of fluid and filters so far in its life.

I just want to get some knowledge over this quirky dip.

Thanks !
