I have a '99 Explorer XLT with about 130K miles. It only happens while I'm driving, but basically occasionally when I take my foot off the gas the RPM's drop like they should but sometimes keep dropping and I feel a dragging sensation on the vehicle. It then bounces back up and will sometimes drop again, but usually only once or twice then it coasts fine. This is something that I pretty much noticed over night.
It's only started happening recently and I've only noticed it happening when I'm coasting from 50mph but maybe I just don't feel it when I'm coasting from slower? The temperature also recently dropped significantly. Like from 50-60's down to the 10's.
I don't have any trouble codes and recently passed emissions. From the little searching I did, it sounds like it has something to do with the transmission? Maybe the torque converter?
I did recently clean out my entire intake manifold and fuel injectors. Yes, I put a new gasket in. Could I have done something wrong while re-assembling that might cause this? Or is there anything else this could be other than tranny issue? I can't imagine it might be a fuel issue as it only happens while coasting. Though it does take a while to start sometimes in the cold. Any help is much appreciated!
