RPM's jump around when I take foot off gas @ 55mph

I dont understand. I was on highway the other day doing 55mph. When I took my foot off the gas, I heard something and look at the tach and it was jumping all around. I was going up and down inbetween 1000-2100 rpms. Any ideas? Thanks fellas

could you tell if the engine was actually reving? my guages bounce when i listen to music.

No, I heard the motor reving up and down. I started to get nervous when this was happening.

that sucks, your best bet is to get one of those "code reader" things. i think they're about $30, but they tell you what's wrong with your explorer.
