What should the rpm be on a 94 xlt 4 wheel drive at 60 mph? I don't know the gears I've got, but 1500 seems ridiculously low. Maybe my tach is broken?

Check your driver door sticker for your axle code, then we'll help you decode it. That will tell you your gearing.

axle

Under axle it says "41"

aaaaaah the dreaded 3.27 gears with an Open diff.

My wife's 94 has 41 also, the rpms don't seem that low at 60mph however. Usually around 1800 rpms.

Gets good gas mileage.

Yup, you have really high gearing. If you think your RPMs are a bit too low on the highway take it out of overdrive.

Trust wat Alec says^^^^And normal driving between 50 and 60mph I leave it off and get better mpg. Doesn't make much sense to me, buts its true! BTW- Got figures back from the carlisle trip, 18mpg going, 17mpg, coming back. What 8 year old SUV has bragging rights like that?

Phfff! My dad 88' Bronco gets 10.2 mpg and his is 14 years old...oh wait...;)
18 mpg is damn good! At best my X usually get 17.6-17.2.

Mine says D4...what the heck does that mean???

I get 16 in town and I average around 20 on the highway. I don't think that is too bad for a truck that is going to be 8 years old this year.:D

whhops! meant to say 10 years old:confused:

D4 is 3.73 limited slip.

YEEEEEHAWWWWW!!!!

thanks

thanks for the info. I'm still shocked that it could turn so few rpms though
