Hi guys,

2004 4WD Explorer, 4.6 with a Limited Slip rear end.

I am getting a rubbing / grinding noise that sounds like a brake caliper hanging up, I have cleaned and inspected all 4 breaks and they look fine. The noise only happens ( as I can tell ) when turning at idle or when accelerating. It does not happen all the time.

I have recently done a filter change on the tranny, a fluid change on the rear diff. ( L.S.) and topped off the fluid in the transfer case.

I used Royal Purple in the rear end with "friction modifyer " added and I am wondering if you guys have had any trouble with this product. I am thinking that maybe the rear end is wanting to lock up when ideling around a curve.
( I have never had a Limited Slip rear end before and don't even know if they sound like a brake pad when engaging )

Would overfilling the rear end, trans , or transfer case cause this condition ?

I Just don't know where to start looking...

Could you add to much, and not allow the LS to work at all ?

One four ounce tube is recommended after changing differential fluid. (3.25 pints)
After adding, find an empty parking lot and do some "figure eights". Stay posted. GL

Limited Slip differentials must add 118ml (4 oz) of Additive Friction
Modifier XL-7 or equivalent to the rear axle whenever the axle has been
serviced.

Well , I added the friction modifyer and the condition continues. Any other suggestions ?

I've heard adding a second bottle may help. I changed my fluid out too, and I still have the same problem, although not quite as bad as before. Thinking about throwing in a second bottle of friction modifier.

At this point, I don't think my problem is coming from the read differential. But I cant figure out what is causing it.

would overfilling the transfercase cause it to engage the 4WD prematurely ?
