ruined the day for newbie s2k

expo5.0s first race worth mentioning in quite a while is sort of a good story, so here goes..

i was out on the boulevard tonight after work at around 11:30 and it was pretty deserted. a light turned red in front of me and i noticed a silver s2000 sitting in the right lane as i slid into the left. i was just blasting the red hot chili peppers and ignoring the guy because he was pretty old andi didn't figure he'd want to race. but when the light turned he popped out of the hole real fast and i followed suit asap. to my surprize i passed him up and walked him pretty good up to 70 or so.

so then i was in front of him driving down the road (speed limit 45) and about a mile down the road the speed limit went up to 50, once again i figured he wasn't gonna go and then he did and his accleration caught me off guard and he pulled ahead (enough that he even stuck his had out the window and gave me a good by wave---- big mistake), once again to my surprise i was able to catch back up again by the time we got up to around 80 and was actually a touch ahead at 90.

i was kind of laughing at this point, but then the next light turned red and we stopped next to each other once again. this time we got to talking. he told me that he had just gone past the break-in period for the car and that this was the first time he'd tried to really hammer on it. he asked about my hp numbers etc. a little and told me about his (which i know were 240 hp 150 lbs of torque off of the top of my head--- correct me if i'm wrong he didn't know the torque) and weight which he claimed 2,900. then the light turned again and this time he dropped with higher rpms and was able to stay around me for the duration of the race, but ended up at my rear bumper going 70.


how would you like to be the guy in the s2k after that happened the first time you tried to race...

nice kill, drew. S2000's are a very very high revving motor, and if there's a newbie behind the wheel, the S aint gonna run. its more like a streetbike motor than a car motor, and most people wont keep them in the powerband. there is no torque there, so if you lug the car around at 5-6k rpms its gonna be slow.

i bet he tells no one that he got stomped by a 4 door explorer.

I've had similar experiences with S2000s. Like James said, they rev high and have no torque. It's pretty easy to take them (if you have the power) especially if the driver isn't that good.
