Hey all, just had a problem with my engine running hot, and it turned out to be an easy fix...thought I'd share. (I also haven't posted in about a year...)

I noticed my engine was idling very high, like 1500rpm. Then my temp gauge spiked almost to the top, then would cool down, it was weird...after a short drive it spiked and stayed there, and I immediately stopped at a station. Mechanic looked at it for about 30 seconds and said "I'd change the thermostat". He said it would be about 140 bucks.

It was an easy fix to do it myself for about 18 dollars.

i just had the same problem where i was driving down the road and noticed the ex was shifting weird and then it was idling high at red lights. didnt even think to look at the temp gauge till i glanced down and it was through the roof. immediately turned the defrost on high heat and parked it after i found a parking lot. would cool down but spiked right back up. had no idea what was going on...

found out you always carry tools with ya because i took the thermostat out and it ran just fine then as i was filling up the radiator up with H2O noticed green fluid near my door... come to the conclusion blew the head gasket... out some leak stuff in the radiator and wham fixed that leak quick.

long shot but is your oil pressure gauge acting odd also? Hows the battery gauge?

No, the OP.

My other gauges were normal. Just thought it was an interesting thing to have such a small fix for a potential big problem
