Back in 2006 with 97000 miles on my 98 Ranger King Cab I bought a set of 4 FUTURA GLS SUPER SPORT Tires from PEPBOYS. I'd heard these were made by COOPER so I thought they would be fine for just running around town. They now have about 27,000 miles on them and I've noticed steering wheel shimmy. Checking I see three tires with bad lateral runout and one tire with horrible lateral runout. I've rotated and been careful about inflation on these tires so I don't think it's something I've done.

Going to PEPBOYS I was told even though they sold me these tires with a 50,000 mile warranty they do not honor the warranty. Am I correct that this runout is a manufacturing defect? Is this the way all tire dealers behave these days?

When was your last alignment, their probably gonna say you either didn't keep the air pressure good enough, the alignment is out, etc... I only go to Pep Boys when it's my last hope for a part. You also put a passenger car tire on a truck that should have LT tires on it, just saying. I owuld try going higher up in their Mgr chain but I don't think your gonna get anywhere.

I was going to say- that's a passenger car tire... At the least, a van tire should be on an Ex...

Tire warranties are one of the biggest cases of fraud at tire shops that I've been reading about. Most places, CostCo, Sears, Firestone, NTB, etc. claim that they prorate your tire, and they often charge you for the prorate in advance yet deny a claim later (as someone said above by claiming the vehicle owner hasn't properly aligned the vehicle or rotated the tire) -- even if the owner can prove that every 6K the vehicle was aligned and/or tires rotated.

I found a website www.consumeraffairs.com that deals with auto shops and tire manufacturers and you can read about different brands and companies that others have used. I am almost paranoid to get new tires because of all the problems I have read about concerning quality and lack of warranty recognition. All I can say is good luck, and I don't understand how a company can install tires not rated for a particular vehicle.
