my 1993 explorer v6 auto 4wd runs great in good weather, but, runs badly when it rains. it stalls, misses & is hard to restart. what could I look into to fix this problem? I was told that it could be my coil for the spark plugs ( not sure of the name) HELP!

Water must be getting into a connector. If you search the forum you'll find this issue.....seems someone else had it in the last 2 years.

Rain can exacerbate ignition issues. Check in the dark for arcing under the hood, from the coil all the way to the plugs. It must be completely dark with no light to be able to easily see arcs.

This one is easy ignition usually worn wires or cracked coil. The other is also very simple dry rotted vacume line. Easiest way to find the problem is on a dry day take a spray bottle with water and start spraying the wires if it runs bad bingo. If it doesnt than spray the coils if it still doesnt go to the vacume lines

runs badly

Thanks for your reply! I had a feeling it was ignition, buying a coil pack& wires. even if I just start it with out driving it runs bad in driveway. Ill check vac hoses too. Thanks again Marty:)

Ill throw this out there..after 6 years of having issues with my big truck motor in the rain or water i finally fixed it..mine would miss and stumble just like yours and not till i got it in my ranger did i notice the rev limiter kicking in at random times also..everything was pretty much new but the crank sensor. .replaced it and no longer have any issues in rain, water or random rev limiters..

Just keep that in back of mind if all else fails..good way to test coils, wires and electrical connectors is to take a spray bottle full of water and spray an item at a time with a COOL motor and at night...your see lighting bolts from the plug wires or your get the stumble once whatever bad item gets wet..

Edit..lol see someone has already suggested the water bottle. .try it,it works..lol

runs bad when rains

Thank you guys! I found some broken vacuum lines & repaired them. I hope that fixes my problem. I'll check wires etc. if prob persists. WOW! i'm glad I found this forum. Thanks ***** rating:thumbsup:
PS. Tried all suggestions did not solve problem. Car still runs badly when weather is bad or is going to be bad, also, when car is running for a while (warm ) it won't re-start. Tries to fire but won't continue . Someone suggested the map sensor?they said that this sensor senses the atmospheric pressure & adjusts accordingly. Note: NO engine light signal i have to wait for car to cool off before it will restart- ( not overheating either)
