My metal brake line that goes from one rear disc brake, over across the top of the axle and to the other disc brake broke on me the other day. I went to advanced auto and picked up a 51" line and a tube bending tool. But while reading my Haynes manual I noticed it said that the vehicle has to be taken to ford to have the brakes bled. Is this true?? Can I not just take the old line off, put the new line on, fill in the fluid I lost and bleed the brakes myself??

You should be able to do it yourself. You could either get one of those hand pump bleeders or have someone press on the brake pedal and release the fluid from the bleeder screws on the calipers.

Thats what I figured but the book said something about plugging it into some computer or something. All Ive ever done is have someone press the brake till I stop seeing bubbles

Probably concerned about running the resevoir dry causing problems with the abs

Cool, thanks Ben. I guess I have another project for this weekend.
