?s on rattle 99 EB 4.0 SOHC

Hello new here! Trying to diag a problem with wifeys 99 EB 4.0 SOHC. I have read alot of posts describing the famous timing chain issues mine I believe falls into another catagory???? I hear a serous rattle sounds like chain rubbing against something constantly at idle. nowhere else in the rpm band runs great any load or rpm put on the motor the noise goes away has 157000 no idea whats been done internally. the noise appears to be coming from the pass. side up in the front sounds louder underneith the vehicle some days it is really loud and others its almost nonexistant any help would be appreciated. I have many years mechanical exp. so technical answers wont confuse me.

does the noise go away once it's warmed up? if so it's most likely the timing chain. Im dealing with it right now too.

No its seems to be constat warm or cold it just comes and goes on different days i saw a thread that says pull the belt ill try that and see if maybe its an alt or tens. prob(doubtful) but what the h***
