I need to get my front diff to the shop to install my 4.10 gears, so I was wondering if I could drive with no axle shafts in the front for a few days while I wait for the gear install. Is the only factor that the inside of the spindle will be exposed to the elements during this time?

Yes... the only factor would be the inboard side of the spindle (ie and spindle bearings) would be exposed to the elements.

You got it, just pack the hell out of it with grease to protect it, then clean it up when you get your chunk back. When you clean it back up, only use brake parts cleaner and compressed air. Brake parts cleaner will not leave a residue on the bearing that can break down the axle grease.

Sounds perfect, thank you!

You could always put a few strips of tape on the back of the knuckle where the axle shaft goes through.
