yeah i got all that

however... the vehicle is already in my name and the insurance comapny said that i have to get a salvage title on it....

it isnt my insurance company that is issuing the check, it is from the insurance company of the car that rearended me.... that insurance company is from wisconsin... i asked the gal i talked to about it, and she said she had no clue how dmv did it in ca....

nothing is wrong with my truck physically... and im not going to actually repair it... all the lights and everything are fine..... however some of the rear sheetmetal cot crunched....

So? it tells you right on that site how to get a salvage title. If thats what you need there is the info. Where the check comes from has nothing to do with getting a salvage title. Did an insurance adjuster come out and tell your truck was totalled? If you can't figure out what you need to do you should either goto the DMV or call them.

ok the real issue isnt obtaining the salavage title its all whats involved with getting it street legal again... is it driveable with a salvage title? or will it need to be inspected by chp first or what? i havent dont this before and the dmv site doesnt answer questions... i have tried calling the dmv phone numbers and no matter when i call it says the bmv help desk is not open at this time... (i have called about 10 times and each time its the same thing, and i have called at differnt hours of the day... normally between 9 am-3 pm......

I know that laws change and AR was never the same as CA, but we used to buy and rebuild totallled cars/trucks (salvage titles). At the time all they had to do was to pass inspection with the new owners and they were issued a new title. Usually we had them inspected ourselves and got new titles. Before anyone asks, everyone who bought one from us knew what we were doing. :)

A few we sold to people in MO with the salvage title. Basically what happened there was they stopped a state cop for a few minutes and he ran thr VIN numbers to see if it was stolen. Then they had to have it inspected. Thats all.

I really have no clue in CA or even what the laws here are now. I am sure there is more paperwork and a few hoops to jump through. You might contact a local rebuilder there and ask. They will know more than some secretary at the DMV.

A revived salvage vehicle is one that was reported by the owner or insurance company as a total loss and has been restored to operational condition. For information on revived junked vehicles click here.

What Do I Do First?

Be sure you have bills of sale for all the major and minor parts used in the reconstruction of your vehicle. These documents should identify:

The part purchased.
The year, make, model, and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle from which the parts were removed.
The name, address, telephone number, signature, and driver license, identification card, Social Security card, or Federal Employer Identification number of the person from whom you bought or acquired the part.

If the truck wasn't totalled out, and you still have the original title you dont have to do anything.....
