Same problem 1st to 2nd - Hate to bother u Glacier991 but...

My question is now what is the next thing I should try replaceing?

I suspect that you may have a bad EPC. Can you get a gauge and test the line pressure? See if you can test line pressure while the trans is slipping.

I will see what I can do on checking the line pressure. I do have a question though... will the same EPC that fits the 95 Explorer (4R55E im guessing) fit my 97 Ranger (4R44E Im guessing)?

Thanks everyone for the help.

I think the answer is that the 4R55E in 95 used a different EPC than your 5R55E in 1997, but I may not be correct. Call yoru FORD dealer parts department and ask them if the part No is the same.

95, and 96 have a different EPC than the 97-up EPC from what I remember in other posts. That part is more expensive. One post mentioned that Transmission Parts USA had one for $103, and said that it should be the same, but have recently updated their website with a different one which is more expensive. Maybe they realized that it was different, and had some returns, but I'm just speculating on that.

Ok thanks. Reason I had asked is because when I build the 97 ranger tranny I was going to replace the EPC in it. From what I have read on here it is a good idea to replace that part when doing a rebuild. I was going to buy a new one and try it on the 95 Explorer to see if it fixed the problem and if it did leave it on it and if not take it off and use in on the 97 in the rebuild. Im going to try to round up a pressure gauge today and check that.

Another question I have.. I have a friend that has been building transmissions for about 20 years that is going to help me with the rebuild on the 97 ranger. He has built alot over many years but he is still a backyard builder and I want to make sure everything is done right. My question is....... Im going to go ahead and order all the parts I need to rebuild it and order everything that should be replaced when rebuilding one. I know the EPC is one thing that should always be replaced. What else should I order and from where should I order and what brand? Just a rebuild kit, a master rebuild kit, or a deluxe master rebuild kit? Im trying to keep it kind of simple if I can, like no drilling holes in the plate thingie for the mod thing, if i can help. Thanks for the help.
