Sank Explorer, Locks don't work -- What to do?

So, I went out for one last blast before I put the saddle back on my explorer (put the sway bars back in) and decided to go for a crossing I usually never go for. This was the result :

Disregard my meat-head friend.

It took a 6,000 pound truck hooked to a XJ hooked to a XJ to get it out. Went through 3 "20,000"LB straps and two 4 ton Come-Alongs. Fun day, needless to say. This picture doesn't do it justice, once we start pulling it forward, the back left tire went into the air, forcing the front right (intake side) into the pond past the headlamp housing. The trucked stalled out 3 times, and interior was completely swamped.

Once out, everything seems to be ok, but the electronic locks no longer work. I obviously need to lock the truck, and the physical lock (putting the key in the door) has never really functioned 100%, so I need to hunt down this electronic problem.

Where do I start?? haha I have no idea.

There is a saying "owners shouldn't be drivers"


Meaning that the owner wont push his car to its limit. What does you friend have to lose if you car explodes? Next time your not comfortable doing something your friend suggests don't do it. lol


Start with the fuse box. Then pull the lock button on the passenger side and see if there is voltage to it. Then pull the lock solenoid and see if there is voltage to it once the switch is pressed. If there is power to the solenoid but it still doesn't work, see if there is a way to take it apart. i don't know after that.
 






Stalled three times... hmm... maybe try a little harder, next time it will hydrolock! I expect the driveline is vented above that water line?
 






i guarantee your diffs are full of water.

You probably fried the GEM or PCM module if it went to the headlights on the passenger side. Just manually lock the doors but then again if your key doesn't work then that ain't gonna help much. First things first, check for power at the power lock wiring on the drivers kick panel.
 






What? The PCM isn't waterproof? Really? Maybe small ponds and bigger should be avoided then?

Your GEM and PCM are probably fine if the water didn't come up into to the dash (or above the top of the headlight). Besides, the GEM and PCM have nothing to do with the power locks. You may have fried the RAP module or the door lock relay (both in the left rear quarter panel behind the trim), or there's water in a lock motor or switch that's shorting out the system.

Check for blown fuses first - ALL the fuses (never know what else might have gotten messed up). If ANY fuses are blown, look at all components of that circuit for water damage and replace as necessary. In there is evidence of water intrusion into electrical connectors, dry them thoroughly and apply some dielectric grease to prevent further corrosion.

Take of the front passenger kick panel and check the RCM (restraints control module) for water damage as well (disconnect the battery and wait at least 15 minutes before messing with it since it controls the airbags). While you're in there look at the wiring harness for the front passenger door and inspect for water intrusion.

Check the relay box under the air filter box for water damage as well (this was almost certainly submerged). It contains relays for the blower motor, fog lamps, front/rear washer, and air suspension.

Pull the passenger door panel off and check the switch and lock actuator.
 






i speak from experience on this one. take all the door panels off, spray the actuators, linkages and switches with strong arm lubricant (http://strongarmsprays.com/) let sit over night, and try again.
sometimes after a swamp youll chase gremlens that arent really there because of contamination and stuff just ebing gummed up.
