Hello everybody,
I am looking for a explorer and went to testdrive a couple.
the one I (and my wife) liked the most has an ugly ticking sound. (1997, 240000 km)
when the engine is cold its sounds (almost) good but when it warms up the tickingsound comes in waves and becomes louder. it starts when (for example) the airco engagges and the rpm dips a little bit.
Can this be the camshaft chaintensioner(s)?? and is it a lot of work to replace it or them???
Also find it strange that the airco engages and disengages every 10 seconds when its switched on.(the outside temperature is arround 0 deg.C , stil i think its strange).
greetings Hans

Just my opinion...

I'd leave that truck alone... sounds like the beginning of the end. But maybe others will have a better answer for you... good luck!

(And nice to meet you
