I don't really understand how SEAFOAM works. I know that you can pour it into the gas tank and it will clean out the injectors but where does the billowing smoke come from?

I saw a few posts about it and they say that you pour it into a vac line or through the PCV line, but how do you do it? I want to see my truck billow out smoke in a good way! Not that bad I-Have-A-cracked-engine way that all my other old beaters had...

Dylan...some people say all of the smoke is just SEAFOAM burning off...some say it is the carbon getting cleaned off of your valves. In any case, I guess it works. I use it but never really see a difference in anything. It's just a detergent.

I always disconnect the brake booster hose from the brake booster (on the driver's side of the engine compartment, against the firewall). Take a cup and pour a 1/3 of the Seafoam bottle into the cup.

Now, disconnect the brake booster line as the engine is running, and dip the line into the seafoam so it "sips" it, just enough so the engine doesn't stall. Engine WILL sputter and shake while sucking in the Seafoam. NOT a ton at once!!!

As SOON as the cup of Seafoam runs dry, shut the engine off. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Upon start-up, vehicle will bog/sputter for a little bit...this is normal. At this time, give the engine gas. I'll hold it at 2500RPM, go up to 3000RPM, back down, back up, no "correct" way of doing it.

Watch smoke.

Some people like to drive their vehicle as soon as they start it and romp the piss out of it as smoke billows out behind them. You decide. Good luck! It's simple.

Don't drive with the smoke coming out in a spot where you will attract attention to yourself. A cop might give a ticket if he sees a lot of smoke coming out, and think that it's an emission problem.

One needs to change the plugs after eh?

thanks for the replies,

So all I gotta do is take out the brake booster line dip it in a cup of seafoam, let it "sip" it all up and then turn off the truck and sit for a bit and then start it back up and run from the cops right? haha I'm gonna try it this afternoon

Would it be better to do it in the dark?

like runesai says, is it better to change the plugs after a treatment? I heard they can go bad with a SEAFOAM session

thanks again guys, this sounds fun ;)

I have never changed plugs after using Sea Foam, nor was there a need to in my case.

Good luck ...

it IS fun to be smoking like that and know its not a blown engine. I did mine at work...in a corporate park at lunch time. THAT was funny...I did not have a problem with my plugs afterwards. I did change them two months later and they were old but fine

if you are going to change your oil soon, run a little into your oil fill...

and the rest into your gas

smoke em if you got em

If your running platinum plugs or irdium or finewire then they will burn hot enough to clean any crap left by SEAFOAM. My old Champions Plugs GARBAGE FOR FORDS i just changed today to the finewire platinum plugs from ford for my 1993 explorer. The Champions had this whitish/blue soot on the electrodes which is from SEAFOAM treatment in intake this past week.

I also put about 1/3 of the seafoam can into the tank last week to help clean injectors and such and it appeared to be a good job, but i have my rough still even though i changed plugs today and a new air filter. I will be doing the fuel filter soon, very soon.

I have a thread in here i just posted in again today in which describes my trucks issue(s).

My plugs are those double platinum ones so they will burn off all the Seafoam residue so they won't be affected by the treatment?

hey thanks for all the help guys

9/10 they won't be affected, but no one can state 100% certain they won't be, so try it out and see.

Be sure your engine is full operating temperature when doing this and it's less likely they will foul. It should bake off from the heat.
